WHAT IS WEIGHT LOSS?

The term 'Weight Loss' has been a catch-all phrase for many years, for the public, in reference to getting in better shape, having the body of your dreams, the ever elusive 6-pack, and so on. But in reality, it is not weight loss, as that term implies the total combined substances that make up the body. Muscle, fat, water, etc. The correct term and thinking is Fat Loss. Sometimes people say, "Yes, that's what I mean" but they don't really understand the difference.

Balanced Eating



In today's society, it has become increasingly acceptable to be 10, 15, 20kg, or more, overweight. 
With all the Fast-Food chains, sodas, fried foods, breads, doughnuts, pastries, chips available on every corner now, being heavier is commonplace. To be in decent shape and even better shape than the average person, is the exception, not the norm. We are all aware of the risks and dangers of carrying too much extra Body Fat. We hear about it daily and still we overeat, over-drink and eat the wrong things. ​Our diet is clearly out of balance.

Food. Are You Sure?

​Most people have very little real food in their diets and are consuming mostly "food-like substances". Processed, packaged, wrapped and delivered "food" to a box store (supermarket), along with all the plastic cups, styrofoam plates, Instant this and Instant that, substitute-sugars, fake flavourings, colour yellow 5, added unknown chemicals that preserve food for months and years beyond their natural life. Think about that. Past their natural "life". Aren't you eating Dead Food? As long as you don't open the container, foodstuffs will last for a very long time. If you expose the "food" to air, it will break down and go bad. Hmm… maybe that is the way nature intended, so we eat it while it's Fresh! Not chemically contained in a suspended state of stasis.

​How is the human body supposed to process chemicals that are not food? How does the body break them down and use them for nutrition, to feed and support the life of the body? The answer is simple. It can't. It can expel some via the various waste systems but mostly it just doesn't know what to do with them and puts them in places in the body it can use as a sort of warehouse. Storing them until it figures out what to do. Which it never really does, so just keeps adding to them, until one day, they take on a life of their own by joining with the body and creating a chain-reaction of destruction. And guess where a lot of these toxic substances are kept? In BODY FAT. That is the safest place to keep them, so the body thinks. So, the more BF one is carrying, the more toxicity one has as well. Not to mention the burden of what 10, 20, 30, 50 and up kilograms of excess Fat does to the heart, the lungs, all the other organs and the muscles and joints of the body. Need I say more?

In Touch With Our Bodies



​One must always strive for BALANCE. As in everything, if things are out of balance, they don't operate properly. If your tyre and wheel alignment are out of balance, on your car, you have a very bumpy ride ahead. Everyone, almost immediately, seeks out a garage to get it repaired. Why? Because it is uncomfortable to leave it that way and it will damage the car. So we get it fixed as soon as possible. We don't drive the car until it is fixed. So why are we so slow to act when it comes to our own bodies? When it is our own life at stake? Is it because we get used to feeling uncomfortable, until it actually is "comfortable"? Seems strange. Is it because we are numb and don't or can't actually feel our bodies? Many people are just that, not embodied, so they can't actually feel themselves, until they get sick.

​Discomfort is necessary for mankind. It alerts us to things we may be doing wrong. We do not care for it so take medications to nullify the pain. Synthetic chemicals that block feeling. We mask the pain and discomfort until we think the pain or the problem is gone. Often, we just get used to the feeling and accept it as normal. The body and mind have an incredible ability for adaptation. Yet the reality is... what you can't see and can't feel, can actually hurt you and may kill you in the long run. Once you learn how easy it is to be mindful and understand you will feel better, think more clearly, have more energy and have a better quality of life, through improving your fitness, it will be very easy to seek and create balance.
